Professional & Education Council

A Federation forum for professional capability, academic participation, workforce development and the long-term aerospace skills base.

Understand the distinction

Breadth first. Technical depth through the appropriate route.

Council dialogue frames the wider issue; specialist work is not assigned authority merely by association.

A Council perspective

Consider the sector, the affected communities and the connections between disciplines. Council advice may identify a question that needs a more focused technical or institutional route.

Council framework
A defined technical task

A Committee provides the continuing subject home; a Working Group may undertake focused analysis or drafting. The applicable mandate governs responsibility and reporting.

Focused Working Groups
Participation and public appointments

Membership can support an expression of interest. Only a published appointment or applicable formal arrangement establishes a role; expertise or affiliation alone does not.

What this Council is

The Professional & Education Council connects the people, institutions and disciplines involved in aerospace learning and professional practice. It considers the long-term capability of the workforce as well as the needs of students and early-career participants.

Why this Council matters

Changes in aerospace technology and operations create new skill needs while experienced practice must remain current. Dialogue among employers, educators and professionals can help AF identify where learning, exchange or technical guidance would be useful.

Purpose

To identify professional and educational priorities, connect academic and industry perspectives, and frame capability needs that may inform Academy activity, membership participation or technical work.

Who the Council brings together

Relevant perspectives can come from organizations and professionals whose work intersects with people and capability. Participation depends on the subject and the Council's needs.

What the Council does

Its role is to connect perspectives and frame useful next steps within the Federation's governance structure.

  • Identifies common workforce and professional-development needs.
  • Connects universities, educators, employers and practicing specialists.
  • Frames learning priorities that may inform Aerospace Academy activity.
  • Highlights human-factors or competence questions for relevant technical review.
  • Supports dialogue on meaningful early-career participation and professional exchange.

How Council priorities move into AF work

The Council identifies educational and professional needs; Aerospace Academy provides the delivery environment for defined learning activity. Technical competence questions can enter the relevant Technical Committee and Technical Work route.

Related Technical Committees

Subjects raised through the Professional & Education Council may intersect with these Committees. They are peer technical routes, not bodies subordinate to the Council.

Where Council questions can lead

Councils provide broad coordination and perspective. Detailed technical development follows the appropriate Technical Committee, Working Group or Technical Work process; formal institutional decisions follow the applicable governance route.

Bring relevant perspective into People and capability.

Educators, employers, established professionals and early-career participants can share experience of aerospace skills and learning needs.

Organizations and professionals may identify Council interests through their membership and participation profile. Involvement depends on relevant experience, balanced perspectives, the Council's needs and the applicable process. Membership does not automatically confer a Council appointment.

Early participation

Early participants can help identify priorities and questions that deserve structured attention. Sharing an interest helps AF understand available experience and build participation around defined needs.
