Public Consultations

How targeted or public technical input may be requested and resolved within a defined process.

Consultation invites relevant input; it does not replace technical judgement or become a popularity vote.

A consultation may be public, member-based, expert-targeted or sector-targeted where the scope, impact and maturity of a technical draft make broader input useful. Not every Technical Work output requires public consultation.

Before consultation
The draft, scope, audience, period and method for receiving input should be clear.
During consultation
Relevant comments are recorded and assessed against the technical question rather than counted as votes.
After consultation
Material comments may lead to revision, clarification, further review, no change with reasons, or discontinuation.

No public Technical Work consultations are currently listed. Future records will appear only where a real consultation has been opened through the approved Technical Work process.

Understand the distinction

Useful comments connect evidence to a specific issue.

No open consultation is implied by this explanatory page.

Identify the text and issue

Refer to the version and passage under discussion. Explain the ambiguity, technical effect or missing context, and distinguish evidence from a preference.

Review and resolution
Propose a reasoned change

Explain the technical basis and likely consequences. Do not disclose restricted, proprietary or unnecessary personal information through a public comment route.

Information and integrity controls

Follow the path from consultation to controlled publication.
