ASTRA.

Aerospace Standard

A defined scope. Traceable evidence. An independent conclusion.
One framework for technical and lifecycle assurance across aviation, space, defense and future systems.

AF ASTRA-100:2026First Edition · 30 September 2026English master text

Broad reach.
Precise boundaries.

ASTRA connects programme governance with technical assurance. It evaluates a named object and its real conditions—not an unlimited claim of aerospace competence.

Define the legal entity, actual performer, site, configuration, lifecycle role and intended outcome first. Then assemble the applicable common controls, family requirements, technical provisions and normative annexes.

  • Shared evidence may be reused only when its relevance is demonstrated.
  • A combined dossier still needs a separate conclusion for each claimed object.
  • Publication, membership and commercial relationships do not establish an assessment outcome.

Find the scope.
Keep the outcome distinct.

The families organise technical scope; they are not eight interchangeable certificate types. Every real scope needs its own approved profile and activation.

F01 / Scope focus3 retained subjects

Management Systems Assurance

Evaluate organisational controls and scoped supplier capability against the applicable management-system requirements. A system-level conclusion does not establish conformity of every product or competence of every technical method.

  • Design and production system
  • Maintenance system
  • Distribution system
F02 / Scope focus22 retained subjects

Critical Processes and Products

Connect the actual product or process configuration to design, qualification, manufacturing and release evidence. Critical activities require application-specific criteria and demonstrated technical coverage.

  • Configuration and traceability
  • Process qualification
  • Product and release evidence
F04 / Scope focus6 retained subjects

Education Programmes

Examine named programmes, disciplines, levels and delivery routes through direct evidence of learning, moderation and learner protection. Programme recognition is separate from professional licensing or individual task authority.

  • Learning outcome evidence
  • Delivery and moderation
  • Completion and teach-out
F05 / Scope focus5 retained subjects

Airports and Aerodromes

Evaluate defined aerodrome capability, local operating interfaces and accountable delivery. Heliports, vertiports and spaceport interfaces need their own applicable criteria; a generic airport profile does not grant wider operating permission.

  • Site-specific capability
  • Operational interfaces
  • Separate lawful permissions
F06 / Scope focus7 retained subjects

Aircraft Maintenance and Technical Services

Follow facility, aircraft type and task capability through current technical data, parts history, human factors, task execution and handover. A maintenance scope does not automatically cover every internal test or training activity.

  • Facility / type / task scope
  • Technical data and parts history
  • Execution, release and handover
F07 / Scope focus9 retained subjects

Ground Operations and Aviation Support Services

Distinguish headquarters arrangements from the real station, service and provider carrying out the work. Evaluate handovers, local variations and disrupted operations; airline flight operations are not included by default.

  • Actual station and service
  • Provider accountability
  • Local variation and resilience
F08 / Scope focus6 retained subjects

Carbon, Environment and Climate Assurance

Keep environmental capability, historical statement verification and prospective plan validation distinct. Each claim needs its own boundary, period, method and assurance form; a validated forecast is not an achieved reduction.

  • Statement boundary and period
  • Verification versus validation
  • Methodology and supportable claims

Technical basis: core Clauses 17–24 and Annex S; family profiles AF-AST-TP-001–008. Listing a subject does not establish a live service or operating permission.

Illustrative aerospace component measurement in a metrology laboratory
From requirement to resultEvidence must describe the real technical object.

Connect the requirement
to the work.

Research, design, manufacture, integration, test, operation, maintenance, modification and retirement create different evidence needs. Configuration, environment and retained responsibility must remain visible across those handovers.

Application-specific parameters
Define numerical values, observable attributes and acceptance rules before evaluating results. Unresolved essential values lead to HOLD.
All-space applicability
38 verification domains and 32 all-space domain groups extend the applicability map; they do not create new programme families or prove universal capability.
Digital & emerging methods
Validate the intended use, configuration, data lineage and human authority. AI outputs, signatures and hashes cannot substitute for valid original evidence.
01DefineObject, intended use and requirements
02DevelopDesign, configuration and qualification
03DemonstrateTest, witness and traceable results
04OperateLocal capability and controlled handovers
05MaintainChange, continuing validity and closure

Reading route: Clauses 32–80; Annex AK (all-space domains), Annex AO (parameter schedules), Annex AM (synthetic calculations) and Annex AN (decision diagrams). The visual sequence is explanatory, not a new normative process.

Four requirement states.
No favourable default.

Evidence validity is established before a result is classified. Every state needs a reason and traceable support; unresolved evidence cannot be treated as success.

PASS

The approved condition is met by valid evidence.

FAIL

Valid evidence shows that the condition is not met.

HOLD

Applicability, method, evidence, uncertainty or authority remains unresolved.

N/A

The trigger and retained responsibility are absent; exclusion is independently approved.

A positive decision needs every applicable mandatory condition to pass.

In-scope nonconformities must be verified closed, exclusions justified, and decision authority competent and independent. A weighted score, completed form, fee or membership cannot compensate for an unmet requirement.

Clause 62 & Annex AL (PDF, new tab)

Use the result actually reached.

Accreditation evaluates a conformity-assessment body’s scoped competence. Recognition, qualification and certification concern their own defined objects and criteria. Verification addresses historical statements; validation examines prospective claims.

Publication is not activation.

The First Edition date identifies the documents. Technical approval, institutional adoption, operator appointment and individual scope release require separate authentic records. This page is not an announcement that every ASTRA service is open.
