Councils
Aerospace Federation Councils bring together broad sectoral and cross-disciplinary perspectives across aviation, space, industry, research and professional development. They help identify priorities, connect expertise and direct questions toward the appropriate technical, research or institutional route.
Council role
Connect a sector. Frame a shared question.
Councils connect institutional and professional perspectives across aerospace. The Aerospace Quality Council adds a cross-sector remit for quality development and distinct dispute-resolution pathways; each Council works within its own mandate.
Frame the wider issue.
Sectoral and cross-disciplinary dialogue connects communities, shared priorities and advice.
Council frameworkRetain subject continuity.
A defined technical scope provides a continuing home for coordination, review and relevant expertise.
Committee scopesCarry out the bounded task.
Research, analysis or drafting addresses a particular question, expected output and reporting route.

Aerospace Quality Council
A cross-sector Council for aerospace quality, standards implementation, technical review and independent dispute-resolution pathways.
Scope & technical connections
Its purpose is to advance quality throughout the lifecycle—from design and manufacture to supply, operation, maintenance and end of service—reduce recurring problems and develop trustworthy routes for resolving disputes.
- Quality policy & AF Standards
- Design, production & supply quality
- Software, testing & operational integrity
- Technical review & expert evaluation
- Mediation & arbitration framework
- Competence, corrective action & sector learning
- Contribute to quality priorities, AF Standards implementation and controlled technical guidance.
- Connect lifecycle quality issues with competent technical review and corrective action.
- Develop distinct expert evaluation, mediation and arbitration arrangements with independent decision safeguards.
- Build competence, anonymized learning and evidence-led sector improvement.
Quality development, technical review, programme appeal and arbitration remain separate routes. Case acceptance and appointments depend on the applicable mandate, consent, procedures and independence safeguards.
Aviation Council
Broad coordination across civil aviation, aircraft operations, infrastructure, maintenance and emerging aviation activity.
Scope & technical connections
To identify cross-sector aviation priorities, connect relevant communities and frame questions that may call for technical review, research, professional exchange or programme activity.
- Flight operations
- Airports
- Air navigation
- MRO
- Safety
- Advanced air mobility
- Human capability
- Identifies aviation priorities that cut across operators, infrastructure and technical organizations.
- Connects operational experience with safety, maintenance and professional perspectives.
- Frames questions that may need review by a relevant Technical Committee.
- Highlights evidence gaps and research needs arising from aviation practice.
- Connects relevant AF forums, activities and member interests around a shared aviation issue.
An issue about aviation-wide operations may remain a Council discussion; a defined airworthiness, avionics or safety question can move to the relevant Technical Committee and Technical Work process.
Space Council
Cross-disciplinary dialogue across space systems, missions, operations, research and responsible long-term space activity.
Scope & technical connections
To bring space-sector perspectives together, identify shared mission and capability priorities and connect those priorities to appropriate technical, research, governance or activity routes.
- Spacecraft
- Satellites
- Launch
- Ground segment
- Mission operations
- Research
- Orbital sustainability
- Connects mission, systems and operations perspectives across the space community.
- Identifies shared capability and responsible-operation questions.
- Frames cross-disciplinary matters for relevant Technical Committees.
- Surfaces research and evidence needs across mission stages.
- Links space-related member interests with appropriate AF technical and institutional activity.
A mission-level question may involve systems, testing, digital resilience and sustainability at once. The Council frames the wider need; defined technical questions can then be examined through the relevant specialist routes.
Aerospace Industry & Manufacturing Council
A cross-industry forum connecting manufacturers, suppliers, engineering capability, materials, production technology and aerospace supply networks.
Scope & technical connections
To identify shared industrial priorities, connect manufacturers and enabling technical organizations, and frame questions about production capability, quality, supply resilience and infrastructure.
- Manufacturing
- Materials
- Suppliers
- Production quality
- Testing facilities
- Traceability
- Industrial resilience
- Identifies manufacturing and supply-chain issues shared across the aerospace industry.
- Connects large organizations, SMEs and specialist capability providers.
- Frames technical questions for relevant Committees in quality, materials, testing or supply resilience.
- Highlights infrastructure and research needs that affect industrial capability.
- Supports dialogue about credible industrial development without assessing individual accreditation outcomes.
A shared production challenge may lead to technical review or research. Accreditation follows a separate, independent assessment and decision process; Council participation does not influence its outcome.
Research & Innovation Council
Coordination around research priorities, evidence needs, emerging technologies and collaboration between academia, industry and technical communities.
Scope & technical connections
To identify shared research priorities, connect relevant capability across institutions and translate emerging questions into suitable research, technical or knowledge-sharing activity.
- Research priorities
- Evidence gaps
- University cooperation
- Emerging technology
- Innovation
- Knowledge exchange
- Technical translation
- Surfaces research questions arising across Council and member communities.
- Connects academic, industrial and technical perspectives around evidence needs.
- Identifies where collaboration could clarify a defined aerospace question.
- Refers specialist questions to the appropriate Technical Committee or Technical Work route.
- Connects credible research activity with suitable knowledge-sharing and publication channels.
The Council helps identify questions and connect perspectives. Defined research work requires its own scope, methods, collaborators and review; findings can later inform Technical Work or wider Council dialogue.
Professional & Education Council
A Federation forum for professional capability, academic participation, workforce development and the long-term aerospace skills base.
Scope & technical connections
To identify professional and educational priorities, connect academic and industry perspectives, and frame capability needs that may inform Academy activity, membership participation or technical work.
- Professional practice
- Competence
- Universities
- Workforce
- Students
- Early career
- Aerospace Academy
- Identifies common workforce and professional-development needs.
- Connects universities, educators, employers and practicing specialists.
- Frames learning priorities that may inform Aerospace Academy activity.
- Highlights human-factors or competence questions for relevant technical review.
- Supports dialogue on meaningful early-career participation and professional exchange.
The Council identifies educational and professional needs; Aerospace Academy provides the delivery environment for defined learning activity. Technical competence questions can enter the relevant Technical Committee and Technical Work route.
Council dialogue
From a shared issue to an appropriate route.
Not every discussion becomes a formal programme or a new publication.
- DialogueBring the wider context.
Institutional and professional perspectives identify a relevant issue, need or evidence gap.
- FramingClarify the question.
The affected communities, subject boundaries and relevant expertise become identifiable.
- ConnectionFollow the suitable route.
Technical Work, reviewed knowledge, learning activity or governance consideration follows its own applicable process.
Council participation
Bring relevant experience, not an assumed appointment.
Organizations and professionals can identify where their sector perspective may contribute. Relevance, experience, Council needs and the applicable participation process remain important.
A useful expression of interest
- Your principal sector and professional context
- The Council or shared issue that matches your experience
- The perspective or expertise you can contribute
- Relevant experience and any interests that require disclosure
