A formal technical output
Standards begin with a demonstrated need.
AF Technical Work examines questions and evidence across aerospace. Where a stable normative requirement set is justified, a project may enter the AF Standards Programme. The programme connects competent technical participation, scoped review, consultation and controlled publication.
The publication landscape
Distinct outputs, clearly identified.
AF Standard
A controlled normative publication containing requirements for a defined scope and intended application.
AF Technical Specification
A narrower normative publication for a focused technical subject. The identifier format is reserved as AF/TS ####:YYYY.
Guidance & Recommended Practice
Non-standard resources that support interpretation, implementation or good practice within a stated scope.
From question to publication
A controlled path, not an automatic outcome.
A proposed standard is examined against existing regulation, standards, research and practice. If no additional normative publication is needed, Technical Work can conclude with guidance, another output or no new document.
Programme architecture
Eight standards. Connected technical disciplines.
AF 9100–9800 address distinct aerospace responsibilities, from quality and operational safety to manufacturing, digital systems, sustainability and maintenance. Each standard has its own First Edition and supporting document collection.
