Accreditation Scope Areas

A controlled map of sector context and technical activities that may be expressed within an accreditation scope.

A scope identifies what was assessed, where it is performed and what the decision covers.

Sector labels provide context; they do not replace the technical statement. Every scope is developed from the applicant activity, the selected route, the technical field, relevant methods or criteria, subjects of assessment and operating locations.

Scope architecture

Five dimensions make one claim understandable.

A scope-defined assessment cannot be read as approval of everything an organization does. Expand a dimension to understand what it identifies.

01Entity
Who holds the assessed responsibility?

Identify the legal entity and the relevant facility or organizational boundary. A parent-company name cannot substitute for the entity actually assessed.

02Activity
What does it perform?

Name the testing, calibration, inspection, certification or specialist activity. “Aerospace services” is too broad to explain the competence conclusion.

03Method & subject
Against what, and on what?

State the methods or criteria and the subjects to which the activity applies. A sector label does not replace this technical boundary.

04Location
Where is the activity performed?

Identify the applicable operating locations and facility context. Do not assume an approval applies to every branch or outsourced location.

05Status & limits
What does the current record permit?

Read the approved scope, current status, dates and any limitations together. An application or old certificate is not a substitute for the current public record.

Read scope areas

Aviation

Aircraft, engines, components, maintenance, airports and flight operations.

Space

Spacecraft, launch, payload, ground, environmental and mission-support systems.

Advanced air mobility

Emerging aircraft, propulsion, infrastructure and supporting technical services.

Cross-sector aerospace

Materials, electronics, software, measurement and specialist services used across aerospace.

Applicants describe the real activity; AF structures the controlled wording.

  • Environmental testing
  • Materials and structures
  • Calibration and measurement
  • Electrical, electronic and EMC
  • Manufacturing inspection
  • Maintenance inspection
  • Facilities and ground systems
  • Management systems
  • Products, processes and services
  • Personnel competence
  • Flight test and simulation
  • Space-system validation
  • Specialist engineering assessment

Inclusion in this list does not imply automatic eligibility or an accreditation decision. Specialized scopes may be proposed for initial technical review.
